Portland By Cycle logo

Portland By Cycle Rides offer information and a supportive setting for adults new to cycling or just getting back on the bike. This series encourages you to use a bike more often - for fun, errands, shopping, or even commuting to work.

Meet at the time noted for sign-in and introductions; rides last about 2 hours.  Most are loop routes, returning to start point, except where noted.

Helmets are required, bringing water is recommended.

Pedalpalooza Painted Streets ride

Wednesday, June 7, 5:00 p.m. 

Wilshire Park, NE Skidmore St and 35th Pl

Take a tour of intersections made beautiful by the neighbors who live near them. Part of Pedalpalooza, a month-long festival of bike fun. Approx. 6 miles


Pedalpalooza Sharrows to Sparrows ride

Saturday, June 17,  9:00 a.m.

Columbia Park, N Woolsey Ave and Winchell St

Ride low-stress bikeways and paths to see nature in the city. Visit birds, beavers and more in their habitat and learn their songs and secrets.
Mostly flat ride that features city parks, Peninsula Crossing Trail, Columbia Slough, and 2,000-acre Smith and Bybee Lakes.     14 miles

Big Jump Gateway ride

Outer Rim Bicycles, NE Halsey St and 106th Ave

The Big Jump plans to triple biking in the Gateway District area. Join PBOT staff for a look at current and future bikeways.      6 miles


See the Slough / Vanport

Wednesday, July 19, 6:00 p.m. (meet at 5:45)

New Columbia Bike Skills Park, N Trenton St and N Woolsey Ave 

Great views of nature along car-free paths, within easy biking distance of New Columbia.               10 miles


Sellwaukie ride

People's Food Coop,  SE Tibbetts St & 21st Ave

Two great places - Sellwood and Milwaukie - that are easy to connect via a new path.       11 miles

Find your way to the big store on this ride - Swedish meatballs optional.    10.5 miles



Future Green Loop ride

North Park Blocks, NW Davis St at Park Ave.

We're dreaming of a bike- and walk-friendly loop in Central Portland.  City Planners will come along to help us see the future.  7.5 miles


150's ride

Wednesday, August 2, 6:00 p.m. (meet at 5:45)

Glendoveer, NE 148th Ave and Halsey St

A new bikeway will take you from Glendoveer to Powell Butte, and right by the only bikeshop for miles.               9.5 miles 


SE Bikeways Updated ride

Tuesday, August 8, 6:00 p.m. (meet at 5:45)

Universal Cycles, SE Ankeny St at 22nd Ave

We'll check out Neighborhood Greenways and how they have evolved - and continue to improve.              8 miles


Johnson Creek Floodplain ride

Foster Floodplain Parking Lot, SE Foster Rd and 106th Ave

See how the City is restoring Johnson Creek for people and salmon on this mostly-off-street ride.       7.5 miles


Agreeable Greeley ride

Bike Farm, NE 1st Ave and Schuyler St

A main route from north to south adopts a new attitude - see how Greeley becomes friendly to bikes.               7 miles 


Art in Albina

Dishman Community Center, 77 NE Knott St

We'll tour murals that honor and celebrate the legacy of this historically African American neighborhood.   7.5 miles 


Bridges of Multnomah County

PCC CLIMB Center, 1626 SE Water St

We'll make a loop along the Willamette, enjoying a nearly-carfree route.               8.5 miles


Central City Emerging

Wednesday, August 23, 6:00 p.m. (meet at 5:45)

Salmon Street Springs, SW Naito Pkwy at Salmon St

We'll see where it's great to ride downtown today, and where there may be improvements soon.     6 miles


Ride the 20's Bikeway 

Tuesday, August 29, 6:00 p.m. (meet at 5:45)

Grant Park, NE Brazee St and 36th Ave

"The 20s" runs from Lombard to the Springwater - we'll ride the hippest section, from Hollywood to Division.    7 miles


The Spirit of '77 Ride

Wednesday, August 30, 6:00 p.m. (meet at 5:45)

Velocult, 1969 NE 42nd Ave

Blaze a trail to great parks via Neighborhood Greenways in Roseway, Cully and Rose City Park.               8 miles

Shop By Bike / Build Your Own Bike Bucket*

Oregon Square Gazebo, in the outdoor gazebo at Oregon Square, just south of NE Holladay St at 8th Ave

Come discuss strategies for conveniently transporting groceries, packages, and kids by bicycle. We’ll conclude with you constructing your own “bike bucket”, a versatile plastic pannier.

Bike Maintenance Basics

Wednesday, June 7th, 6pm   (pre-registration is required)

Oregon Square Gazebo, in the outdoor gazebo at Oregon Square, just south of NE Holladay St at 8th Ave 

Join us for a hands-on clinic led by renowned writer & bike mechanic Tori Bortman, covering basic bike maintenance, flat repair, and a few simple adjustments and cleaning techniques. Learn how to keep your bike running like a well-oiled machine! Great if you can bring your bike, as there’ll be an opportunity to work on it, but not absolutely necessary.
