Permitting > Portland in the Streets Program

Why we're here

The Portland Bureau of Transportation prioritizes people by encouraging the use of the right-of-way for community gathering spaces, placemaking and programming. The Livable Streets strategy was developed by a Stakeholder committee tasked with supporting community building through recommendations to the Portland in the Streets program team. Check out the Livable Streets Strategy to learn more about what drives our programs and how we are going to move the dial on placemaking in Portland.

What we do

  • Through the Portland in the Streets Program, you can activate a public space for your community project.
  • Our community-use programs encourage Portland residents to activate public spaces (streets, sidewalks, under-utilized spaces) for small and large community gatherings.
  • We are available to help and guide you through the permitting process.  Please visit the individual landing program pages below for more information.
