Portland's Bureau of Transportation prioritizes people by encouraging the use of public spaces, such as streets, lanes and sidewalks, for community gathering spaces, placemaking and programming. The Community Event Program permits a range of events from farmers markets, street fairs, cultural events, community bbqs and so much more!

Things to know about events in the street:

  • Events must be open to the public. Ticketed event are allowed if the tickets are available to the general public for purchase and the event meets all other permit requirements.  The City of Portland does not issue permits for private events in the public right of way.
  • For-profit businesses must have a non-profit affiliated with the event in order to be eligible for a permit.
  • Events are non-political and must provide a civic benefit to the community.

The street closure permit is issued to restrict motor vehicle access only. A pedestrian route must remain open at all times for pedestrians that wish to travel through the closed street area.
