Community Events

Portland's Bureau of Transportation prioritizes people by encouraging the use of public spaces, such as streets, lanes and sidewalks, for community gathering spaces, placemaking and programming. The Community Event Program permits a range of events from farmers markets, street fairs, cultural events, community bbqs and so much more!

Things to know about events on Portland streets:

  • Events can either be free and open to the public or ticketed.  Ticketed events must make all tickets available to the general public for purchase.
  • The City of Portland does not issue permits for private events in the public right of way.
  • Every event must have a non-profit affiliated with the event in order to be eligible for this permit..
  • Events are non-political and must provide a civic benefit to the community.

The street closure permit is issued to restrict motor vehicle access only. A pedestrian route outside of the event space must remain open at all times for pedestrians that wish to travel through the block.
