Tilikum Crossing: Bridge of the People

Tilikum Crossing: Bridge of the People is the largest car-free bridge in the United States. As the latest addition to our cityscape here in Bridgetown, Tilikum Crossing carries the Portland Streetcar, the MAX Orange Line, TriMet buses and cyclists and pedestrians.

As part of the $1.49 billion Portland Milwaukie Light Rail Project, Tilikum Crossing makes it even easier for residents throughout our region to get to important destinations like Portland State University, OHSU, the Central Eastside District and OMSI. Thanks to Tilikum Crossing, residents also have new and improved connections to already existing, state-of-the-art transportation infrastructure such as the Portland Tram, the Gibbs Street Pedestrian Bridge, the Eastside Esplanade and over 319 miles of bikeways throughout the city.

This is Portland at our best. For decades, we have set ourselves apart from the rest of the country by emphasizing high-quality road, rail, bridge, bike lane and sidewalk projects. These projects enhance our neighborhoods, support our businesses and shape our City. As a first-of-its-kind bridge, Tilikum Crossing continues this tradition of excellence. In concrete and steel, it expresses the values that are central to our city and central to our work at the Portland Bureau of Transportation.
