In partnership with the Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA), Safe Routes to School offers Pedestrian Safety Education at 40 Portland schools every year.
Pedestrian Safety Education (PSE) is taught to 2nd grade students during the school day. The curriculum includes 1.5 hours of in-class and outdoor instruction. The class ends with a group walk through the neighborhood.
Volunteer opportunity! Contact the BTA to volunteer for the graduation walk at a school near you.
If you are interested in receiving Pedestrian Safety Education at your school, start by talking with school teachers and the Principal. Getting support from school administration and staff is key to a successful education program. See our Education Requests page for more details.
