SW/NW 20th Avenue from Raleigh to Jefferson

This project will improve conditions for bicycling and walking by slowing auto traffic speeds, reducing auto traffic volumes, upgrading crossings of busy streets, and creating new connections to existing bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure on or adjacent to SW and NW 20th Ave. The project is partially funded by $200k from the Fixing Our Streets initiative. Other funding sources are needed to accomplish the full capital elements planned. This project will be constructed in two phases.

Proposed project elements will include, speed bumps, signage, pavement markings, curb extensions, and traffic operation changes to protect the local, neighborhood character of NW 20th Ave.

Elements completed:

  • All pavement markings and signage

  • All speed bumps

  • Paint and post curb extensions at NW Everett, NW Lovejoy, and NW Northrup

Planned elements awaiting construction for summer 2019:

  • Curb extension and crosswalk at NW Glisan and NW 20th

  • Semi-diverter at NW Raleigh and  NW 20th

Phase 2
From SW Mill Street Terrace to SW Alder Street using SW 18th, 17th, and 16th Avenues. See the overview map for details.

  • Neighborhood greenway on SW 18th and SW 17th from SW Mill Street Terr to SW Madison.

  • Buffered bike lanes on SW 17th and SW 16th from SW Salmon to SW Alder

  • Two-way bicycle facility on SW Alder from SW 17th to SW 16th


Preliminary Project timeline

Phase 1 construction taking place 2018 through summer 2019.
Phase 2 construction planned for spring 2020.
