PedPDX will prioritize sidewalks, crossing improvements, and other investments that will make walking safer, more comfortable, and more accessible in Portland.
How does PedPDX propose prioritizing areas for investment?
PedPDX is working on developing a “Pedestrian Priority Network” of Portland streets and paths that provide important connections for people walking throughout the city. With all the improvement needed throughout the city, PedPDX proposes to use a prioritization framework to inform which areas within the Pedestrian Priority Network should be considered first for investment.
Based on what we’ve heard is most important through our community outreach and vision setting process, we’ve proposed that this framework is made up of three factors: equity, safety, and pedestrian demand. Each of the three factors would be scored individually on a scale from 1 to 10 and a combined score would be assigned to each street on Priority Pedestrian Network ranging from 3 to 30. The higher the score overall, the higher the citywide priority for pedestrian improvement investments in those locations.
