Leaf Day Pickup 2018

This Leaf Day, we're introducing a big change. We're eliminating the fee for leaf service. Leaf Day is now free of charge!

The Leaf Day fee was started in 2010 during the Great Recession as a way to recover the city’s cost of providing the service. But the fee never covered the cost of the program. In fact over the last five years, the fee covered less than half of program costs. The cost of administering the program grew as well.

Portland's urban forest is one of our smartest investments, paying economic, social and environmental dividends everyone enjoys, from cleaner air and water to lower cooling costs and increased property values. Of course, with trees come leaves – and when they fall in an urban environment, it's necessary to clean them up.

From mid-November to mid-December, removing leaves from our streets is critical because letting them stay on the street can clog storm drains, flood intersections and make streets slippery. Fallen leaves can actually degrade the street surface, which could force us to repave the street that much sooner, at a far higher cost.

Our Leaf Day Pickup program gets leaves cleaned up in a way that makes a better, healthier and safer Portland.
