PedPDX Toolbox

What is the PedPDX “Toolbox”?

The PedPDX Toolbox will identify the strategies and actions we will use to help us attain the PedPDX vision of making Portland a great walking city for all. It will articulate the innovative design, enforcement, education, encouragement, policy, and programmatic elements we will use to help us fulfill tthe six PedPDX objectives:

  • Prioritize investment in areas with the greatest historic underinvestment in pedestrian infrastructure and with historically under-served populations to reduce disparities in access to safe pedestrian facilities
  • Complete and maintain a Priority Pedestrian Network that encourages walking for people of all ages, cultures, and abilities, and connects people to their essential daily needs
  • Commit to funding pedestrian network improvements in the Priority Pedestrian Network
  • Support the City’s Vision Zero commitment to eliminate traffic-related deaths and serious injuries
  • Protect the public safety and personal security of people walking
  • Make walking in Portland a joyful experience that helps people connect with their community

To help develop the PedPDX Toolbox, the project team has and will continue to engage with the PedPDX CAC and the Portland Pedestrian Advisory Committee. In addition to these targeted engagement exercises, the PedPDX team will incorporate key takeaways from disability and equity-based focus groups to better ensure the PedPDX Toolbox represents the full range of abilities and identities of people walking in Portland.

The ideas generated by these groups will be considered and expanded upon by the PedPDX Technical Advisory Committee for inclusion in the PedPDX Toolbox. The draft Toolbox will be released in earily 2019 as part of the PedPDX public review draft for broad public review and comment.
