North Rivergate Boulevard Overcrossing

A rendering of Rivergate Overcrossing

What’s Happening Now?

The project is completing final design and moving to construction in the Fall of 2019.

Project Background:

The project will construct a new bridge to elevate North Rivergate Blvd over the Union Pacific RR tracks crossing the roadway.  Currently rail operations block North Rivergate Blvd for long time periods causing traffic congestion affecting one of the region’s largest industrial area. In 2016 the Port of Portland received a grant from the U.S Department of Transportation’s TIGER program to construct an overcrossing on N. Rivergate Blvd. The project has also received funding from Metro, the Oregon Department of Transportation and City of Portland Transportation System Development Charges.

Construction Dates:

Construction begins: Will begin construction in October 2019

North Rivergate Blvd closes to traffic: Anticipated March 16, 2020

North Rivergate Overcrossing opens: Anticipated Spring 2021

Project Complete: Spring 2021

*During construction, North Time Oil Road will be used as a detour*

Project Cost: $25.8 Million
