What’s happening now?
Construction has started and will continue through the summer. The project is expected to be completed by the end of this calendar year. During construction, the project will be closing one of the two lanes on Columbia Boulevard as well as on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard from 8:00am to 4:00pm. After 4:00pm, the two travel lanes will be opened back up.
Project Background and Description:
The westbound right turn movement at the intersection of NE Columbia Boulevard and NE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard moves a significant amount of freight traffic. At this intersection, congestion makes it difficult for freight traffic to travel efficiently.
The NE Columbia Boulevard at OR 99E/Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard project will construct a dedicated westbound right turn lane on NE Columbia Boulevard at the intersection of NE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and NE Columbia Boulevard. In addition, a 12-foot sidewalk adjacent to the new right turn lane and a new traffic signal will be constructed. Finally, this project will be completed by Just Bucket Construction.
Construction Date: The project is expected to be finished at the end of 2019.
Current Project Phase: The majority of the work has been completed with the exception of the new signal installation which will be completed in January of 2020.
Total Project Budget: Funded with the Surface Transportation Program (STP), a federal grant, this project’s total budget is $ 3.4 million.
