Nov 17, 2008 at 12:50 PM 2 Comments
As gas prices decline, TriMet continues to see record ridership. To accommodate this growth, TriMet is added additional service to the MAX Blue Line.
Services changes will also be made to several bus lines. The new times and lines will go into effect on November 30th.

Why does Portland proudly proclaim "more trains" but just "service changes" to bus lines - TriMet added bus service, but apparently Portland's Office of Transportation doesn't care about TriMet bus riders, which make up two-thirds of Portland's transit ridership.
Is Portland truly inclusive of all residents, including those who do not live near a MAX or Streetcar line, or does PDOT consider bus riders second-class residents?
Portland needs to not discriminate against bus riders and bus service - Portland needs to encourage it, support it 110%, and make sure that bus riders get the same level of support, service and investments as other transit riders. It can start by making sure that these press releases that PDOT posts on the website gives bus riders the same courtesy as MAX riders.
The press release title should be, "TriMet adds more transit service" - TriMet increases service frequency on several bus and MAX lines.

Thanks Erik for your comments. Certainly, the Portland Office of Transportation values all modes, with our region's great bus service being no exception. I chose to highlight the MAX train increase in the headline because I had received comments from downtown commmuters about the MAX trains being full.
