High Speed Rail in the Northwest

In the past we've blogged about California's high speed rail proposal and wondered what it would take to get a Portland (or even Salem or Eugene)-to-Vancouver, BC line in the Northwest.  The federal stimulus package contained $8 billion for high speed rail throughout the nation and now rail advocates are getting excited.

One group in the Northwest, Cascadia Prospectus, has been pushing for greater rail development since 1993.  They have a good article on the Northwest line's needs and how we can transform Amtrak's Cascade service into something closer to the high speed rail being proposed for California.

High speed rail in the Pacific Northwest from Vancouver BC to Oregon ?

Is their a Northwest High Speed Rail Association to encourage government to build such a project ?

USA President Obama appears to be really supportive of High Speed rail.

Now may be a great time for government discussion and cooperation to enchance infrastructure within the Northwest.

I am all for high speed rail! I travel to Seattle often, and the main downside is that it takes 4 hours.

We need high speed light rail in the NW. Our streets and highways area clogged with individuals driving along in small and large vehicles.

The North West Highspeed rail project needs to be expanded and improved in order to tackle the comgestion on the highways. High speed rail would be as fast as flying and faster than driving at a fraction of the cost. It has worked safely in Japan for decades at the same time saving their environment.
