Kids on the move at Bridger K-8

Congratulations, Bridger K-8, on riding (or walking) the momentum of International Walk + Bike to School Day to initiate a month-long active transportation program!

Below, Kat Sandor (Bridger Community Engagement Specialist) shares about the successes at school and her partnership with the Safe Routes program....

"I just wanted to give you a little update on what's going on over here in Southeast at Bridger K-8.  On Walk and Bike to School Day, we had about 70 students participating, many bringing their parents with them.  We were able to hand out all the promotional items you provided us with while students entered in a drawing to win some t-shirts and helmets.  They munched on the Clif Bar treats and had fun trying to find on the large map where they came from, marking their starting point with a sticker.  That day was a kickoff for a monthlong challenge (like the Bike Commute Challenge!).  Each day, I met students in the cafeteria with scorecards and marked off each day they walked or biked.  Today, one month after the start date, we handed out prizes to students who walked at least 15 days.  We had 50 students who qualified.  We were able to give them Bridger T-shirts that we had left over from an event last year, as well as stainless steel water bottles.  Kids were so excited in the cafeteria this morning!  And I can't tell you how many students who didn't participate were already asking when we were going to be doing this again!  It was so encouraging to see their excitement and enthusiasm.  I just wanted to say thank you for all the encouragement and support that you guys gave during this event, from the info session a while back and all the materials.  Our students are excited to be a part of the Safe Routes Program.  Hopefully our paths will cross again sometime soon."
