Are you student that would like to walk and bike more? Are you a parent that would like to see your daughter/son become more active? Then the Walk and Bike Challenge is for you!
50 years ago, about half of U.S. students living within two miles of school walked or biked, compared to only 18% now. (Among Portland's Safe Routes to School partners, this figure is 39% - much better, but still worse than 1960).
Modelled on the Bike Commute Challenge, the statewide Walk and Bike Challenge encourages all students to walk and bike during the month of May.
Since a lot of students aren't in school for the entire month of September, wise people created this May event for students.
Speaking to the excitement our youth becoming more active, a record 100 Oregon schools are already registered!
Any student can register at www.walknbike.org If you don't see your school represented, you can register your school when you register.
