Walking in Chinatown

Portland's Chinatown is an area rich with history. At different times, it has housed members of Portland's Chinese/Chinese-American, Japanese/Japanese-American, and African-American residential and business communities.
This weekend the Dill Pickle Club is holding two walking tours on the history of Portland's Chinatown. These will be led by Professor Marie Rose Wong from Seattle University, the author of the only published book on the history of Portland's Chinatown.
In addition, Dr. Wong will present a free lecture on tomorrow, Tuesday, June 15th at The Waypost at 5:00 p.m., 3120 N. Williams.
The Portland Bureau of Transportation worked with the Chinatown/Old Town community to develop streets that could easily be transformed to "Festival Streets" to public events. Festival streets are similar to piazzas that one might see in Latin America or Europe that allow for public gathering.
