Portland Sun Cycle
My name is Srijana. I am a student at David Douglas High School.
I intern with The Bureau of Transportation this summer as well as Safe Routes to School. The thing that I want to share with you all is what I learned from the Sun Cycle program and what Sun Cycle program is about.
Sun Cycle is about how to ride bikes in a safe way and this program wants
your kids to learn important skills about bikes. It is only a two hour class Monday – Thursday, for two weeks. This class is especially for kids. This class also give yours kids chance to hang out with their friends by visiting different parks in different neighborhoods which makes kids happy and they will enjoy it because we go to different neighborhood schools. Sun Cycle is at Shaver Elementary School, Earl Boyles Elementary School, Gilbert Park Elementary School, University Park, Community Center, and Hacienda CDC. This way all neighborhoods kids get an opportunity to take this class and learn from it. The three most important skills are, first important thing is how to fit helmet then it is a great opportunity to learn all important signals when turning either right and left and when stop in intersection, as well as in stop sign, Second it’s teach children to ride bike in straight line and being in right lane and third fun and great thing is how to fix flat tires which makes kids happy and they can fix their bike tires by themselves.
As I thought teaching and leading are not easy to do that’s why I was scare to work with this Sun Cycle program but once I try, I was successful. Now I have experience of it so, it is not as hard as I thought before and I love to do it again. In this best way I learned all those skills that I never had heard about before which help me always to be safe and I got chance to know all different neighborhoods and got chance to talk with different people. If you think that your kids should take this bike safety class and want them to be safe then Sun Cycle program always welcome you in.
