While Portland waits for summer National Bike Month continues to roll out event after event to entice the pedal-shy to give biking a spin and to thank the intrepid for carrying the torch during the long gray months.
In addition to the City's 19th annual Bike to Work breakfast on Tuesday, 5/17 there's a host of events coming up:
- The Lloyd TMA's annual Bike to Work Day Celebration on Friday, 5/13 from 7:30 - 9:00 at Oregon Square
- Bikes Mean Business is the BTA's event, sponsored with downtown businesses to demonstrate the importance of bicycling to Portland's economy (hint: it generates about $90 million/year and employees about 1,000 people).
- Our very own Safe Routes to School program is organizing Walk and Bike to School Challenge Month with nearly 70 Portland area schools.
- And Portland State is hosting their own Bike to PSU Challenge this month. So far they've got 715 people engaged who have logged 30,000 miles of pedal power (in just 11 days!)
Now that's you're inspired (or sick of reading) get out there and check out one or more of these great events. When you see so many people bike commuting, you start to realize that commuting by bike just once each week is easy and attainable!
If you know of other events please leave a comment and I'll update the article. Thanks!
