VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

INTERSECTION SUPERHERO – 150 volunteers needed

What makes this position cool: This is the #1 most important volunteer position of the event! Receive smiles and thanks while you wave and cheer on participants. Express your creativity with chalk, music or another hidden talent.

Details: In order to hold this event, we must close over 6 miles of streets to car traffic.  Help with participation traffic flow, answer participants’ questions, redirect neighborhood traffic, and set up or take down barricades at your intersection.  Some volunteers will have the added duty of counting participants at different intervals.

MOBILE SUPERHERO - now more important! If you have a bike, sign up for this.

What makes this position cool: Volunteer from the seat of your favorite bike.

Details: Much like the Intersection Superhero, but monitoring a section of the course by bike.  Help vehicles move through the course when needed, help out participants and support other volunteers.

ROUTE SET UP

What makes this position cool: Play with chalk and draw arrows.  Work with a favorite someone.

Details: Prior to the start of the event, go around the route and draw arrows where we want to guide participants.  Put up signs and generally help the route be ready for 20,000 people.  Work in pairs.

SURVEY TEAM

What makes this position cool: Be friendly and out-going at the event and help find out who's coming to this event.

Details: Approach participants and ask them to fill out a quick survey for the event.

INFORMATION BOOTH SUPERSTAR

What makes this position cool: Be the face of Sunday Parkways to event participants.  Welcome people to the event and tell them where to go.

Details: Answer people’s questions, hand out brochures and help set up or take down info booth

PARK SET-UP

What makes this position cool: Help create the party atmosphere in the parks.  Volunteer early and enjoy the rest of the day.

Details: Help set up tables, chairs and canopies.  Hang banners and signage.

PARK CLEAN-UP

What makes this position cool: Enjoy the whole event then help the tired Sunday Parkways crew to beautify the parks and course.

Details: Help take down tables, chairs and canopies.  Remove signage and banners. Basic clean-up of each park and the course

What makes this position cool: Who doesn’t love a rescue from distress?

Details: Help those event cyclist who need a bit of professional help

Required: Roving mechanics must have advanced mechanical skills and be able to do on-the-spot basic repair.  Mechanics bring their own basic tool kit, a cell phone and are proactive about providing support on the route. We will provide a mechanic vest for you to wear on the route so you are recognized as a mechanic.  We will have bike shops located in parks and along the route if more advanced mechanical work is needed.

ROVING MEDIC

What makes this position cool: When you’re needed, you’ll be the most important person on course

Details: Care for minor injuries.

Required: To sign up for this position, you must be a MD, RN or EMT and provide your own ride-along medical kit and cell phone.

PHOTOGRAPHER

What makes this position cool: You get to document the essence of Sunday Parkways.

Details: Must be able to take digital photos on the route and pass them on to us by the end of the week via disc, memory card or uploaded to Flickr with high resolution.  We will provide you with a shot list.  Getting us the pictures by the end of the week is essential.  Sunday Parkways will retain all rights to use event photos for any promotional purposes
