The NY Times has a piece today in their business section chronicling Portland's private sector investing and marketing to bicycle commuters. Profiled are the Hubworks Bike Bar, Eco Flats, real estate agent Kristin Kaufman, Friendly Bike Guest House, Killingsworth Station, and Pix Patisserie.
Several of the aforementioned businesses are in the N Williams corridor, one of the city's busiest bike corridors. Like the recent piece in The Atlantic, the story also discusses the tensions surrounding gentrification (and that for many long time African American residents bicycling has come to symbolize), in particular discussing PBOT's North Williams Traffic Safety Operations project. PBOT has extended the project's public process at the request of community members.
