The Portland Bureau of Transportation Active Transportation Division Ambassador Program is an opportunity for volunteers to get hands-on experience with Active Transportation staff to reach out to Portland residents. Active Transportation Ambassadors represent the Bureau of Transportation and present information to encourage people to use a variety of travel modes to get around Portland. Ambassadors also share safety information and encourage motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists and transit users to share the road and travel safely together.
Volunteer activities include assisting with guided walks, bike rides and classes, and outreach at community events such as neighborhood street fairs, farmers markets, and Concerts in the Parks. We ask that Ambassadors commit to a minimum of two events during the spring, summer and fall of 2013.
Selected Ambassador Applicants will receive a 2-hour training at the Active Transportation Ambassador Academy on all the information and skills necessary to talk with the public at community events about all transportation options. The training is Tuesday, April 30th, 6:00 - 8:00 pm and applications are due Friday, April 19th. Click here to download the application.
Ambassadors get an inside look at how one of the best bicycling and walking cities in North America gets to be that way. Additionally, Ambassadors receive a t-shirt, a variety of walking, biking and transit incentives throughout the summer and an opportunity to expand their skills.
