Fundraising Opportunity for Groups

Portland Sunday Parkways opens miles of streets to walkers, runners, cyclists and more. Sunday Parkways’ routes connect parks filled with music, games, classes and food. To make this possible over 350 volunteers are needed during each event.

Your volunteers help Sunday Parkways by acting as Intersection Superheroes

Each Sunday Parkways closes 7-10 miles of city streets to cars, which can sometimes be a headache for our neighbors who live on-route if they can't be out and about enjoying the event with everyone else. Our Sunday Parkways Intersection Superheroes act as ambassadors on behalf of the event, and help people living along the route to get to and from their homes. With tens of thousands of Sunday Parkways participants passing by along the route, this role takes patience and clear communication to drivers and participants alike.

The City of Portland donates money your organization

Through the Sunday Parkways program, the City of Portland makes a financial contribution to your nonprofit organization in exchange for filling approximately 5 Intersection Superhero shifts at a Sunday Parkways event with individuals from, or affiliated with, your organization. Each individual volunteer will need to cover one individual intersection shift during the event (pairs are fine, but are counted as a single shift), and perform their Intersection Superhero duties for the entire 3.5-hour shift.

Volunteer locations, shifts and other details

The process: You estimate the number of shifts your organization can fill at an event. The Sunday Parkways Volunteer Coordinator assigns your group a location and shift based on the needs of the event. You provide a list of volunteers to the Volunteer Coordinator, who sends them all necessary information regarding their shift(s).

Locations: Your group arrives together at the same Volunteer Check-In location to receive training and supplies. Your volunteers will then be assigned to individual intersections nearby.

Shifts: Your group volunteers for a combination of the two shifts, depending on our event needs (9:45am-1:30pm OR 12:30pm- 4:00pm). In some cases individuals can volunteer for both shifts (9:45am-4:00pm)

Age requirements: Youth under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
