TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Rose Quarter bicycle, bus traffic detour extends through Fri. June 14
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Bureau of Transportation advises the traveling public that a road closure on a heavily traveled bicycle route through the Rose Quarter will be extended through Friday, June 14.
Street maintenance on NE Wheeler Avenue started on Monday and was expected to be completed by today, but weather and other factors have extended the time needed for the work.
A one-block section of NE Wheeler Avenue is closed between the MAX light rail tracks and N Interstate Avenue. The closure blocks all bus and bicycle traffic on the street. Automobile traffic is not allowed on the one-block section.
Though short, the site is on one of the busiest bike routes in Portland, carrying thousands of bicyclists a day. Cyclists are advised to expect delays and use alternate routes if possible, including the Broadway Bridge. Signs at the site direct cyclists to use nearby sidewalks to get around the work area.
The public is also advised to travel cautiously, observe all lane closures and directions by flaggers, and use alternate routes if possible.
This work is weather-dependent, and the schedule may change.
