(September 27, 2013) – The Portland Bureau of Transportation announced today that the last Sunday Parkways of the season is cancelled due to a severe weather forecast for the Portland metropolitan area. High winds and heavy rain are forecast for this Sunday, September 29.
The event was scheduled to take place in Southwest Portland from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. City officials are notifying sponsors, vendors and residents of the cancellation.
The Southwest Portland event was scheduled to be the last in a series of five Sunday Parkways events this year that take place in various neighborhoods and open the city’s largest public space – our streets – to walk, bike, roll and enjoy active transportation and entertainment. The first four were highly successful, bringing Portlanders of all ages together to enjoy traffic-free streets for a day and encourage active transportation year-round.
Sunday Parkways is organized by the Portland Bureau of Transportation with its many community partners, including presenting sponsor Kaiser Permanente, and champion sponsors Universal Cycles, and Portland Parks & Recreation, Metro, Bike Gallery, Clif Kid and the NW Health Foundation. The Jewish Federation of Greater Portland and Food Front were on board as Southwest Portland event sponsors.
