Live too far from school? Try a Park + Walk!
Families living greater than one mile away from school may find the distance too daunting for a morning or afternoon walk. Other factors, such as heavy traffic or lack of sidewalks, may also be a barrier for students to get to school safely.
One option to consider is a Park + Walk, or satellite parking location. Similar to TriMet's Park + Ride, families can drive to a safe site closer to school (such as a park or shopping center) and then walk the rest of the way. Students get in a little bit of exercise before school and parents feel more comfortable knowing the walk is safe.
Parents can take Park + Walk to the next level by recruiting more families to participate. As more families try Park + Walk, car congestion decreases around school, contributing to a safer environment for all students.
