High Crash Corridor: Pedestrian and Bicycle Crossings

This project includes flashing beacons and a refuge island for pedestrians on SE 122nd and Main, and a protected bike lane connection and better pedestrian access at SE Holgate and 41st.

Both of these areas are High Crash Corridors, which are roads on which a high concentration of crashes occur. These improvements make walking and cycling safer and easier at these locations.

The refuge island on 122nd allows pedestrians to cross one traffic direction at a time, while the bike lane connection on Holgate makes it easier for both people on foot and on bike to get through the intersection. Cross-bikes at the Holgate intersection make drivers more aware of bikes crossing through. Additionally, curb ramps and crosswalk markings have been added.
