High Crash Corridor: Pedestrian and Bicycle Crossings
This project will include flashing beacons and a refuge island for pedestrians on SE 122nd and Main, and a protected bike lane connection and better pedestrian access at SE Holgate and 41st. Both of these areas are High Crash Corridors, which are roads on which a high concentration of crashes occur. These improvements will make walking and cycling safer and easier at these locations. The refuge island on 122nd will allow pedestrians to cross one traffic direction at a time, while the bike lane connection on Holgate will make it easier for both people on foot and on bike to get through the intersection. They will add cross-bikes to the Holgate intersection to make drivers more aware of bikes crossing through. Additionally, curb ramps and crosswalk markings will be added.
