Safer and More Efficient Rail Crossings
Right now, the technology that controls when gates come down across intersections with railroads dates back to the 1970s. This project updated that technology, adding more wiring to confirm when a train is arriving and installing a backup battery in the case of a power outage. Trains going through these crossings may carry hazardous materials, so making sure these intersections are safe is very important. Updating this technology also aligned with the City’s commitment to eliminate all traffic fatalities with Vision Zero.
