- 57% of deadly crashes occur on just 8% of our streets - most of them wide and fast.

- 51% of deadly crashes involve people driving who do not stop for people walking, do not stop for stop signs, or exhibit other dangerous behaviors. Distractions such as phones are likely culprits.
Excessive vehicle speed is one of the leading causes of crashes in Portland. Vehicle speed affects stopping distance and fatality rates for people walking and people.

YARD SIGN LENDER Program
The City of Portland Bureau of Transportation SLOW DOWN yard signs feature an 18" X 24" sign in corrugated plastic (FREE with 6 Vision Zero safety pledge signatures) or aluminum ($25 deposit required, deposit refunded if the sign is returned in good condition within 1 year).
The Bureau of Transportation yard signs are portable and suitable for quick and easy display by residents on their personal property. All yard signs have a "SLOW DOWN Set the pace." message on one side and one of three messages on the reverse side: LOOK for kids and seniors, STOP for people crossing, and WATCH for people biking.
