FAQs: RV Disposal Turn-In Day

What is the reason for the event?

Currently the disposal cost of older RVs is a barrier to people who no longer want to own the vehicles.  RV owners are faced with options of keeping the older vehicles in their possession, paying significant amount to dispose of it, or donating/giving it away.  Our goal is to provide the public a way to dispose of unwanted RVs.

Will there be future turn-in events?

We will hold additional events if this one is successful and there appears to be a greater demand.

Why are you only allowing residents of Portland to participate?

PBOT is a City bureau and funded with City resources, therefore any of our programs are directed at the residents of the City of Portland.

What is the limit of RVs that can be turned in at the October 29 event?

Only one vehicle can be turned in per household. We will maintain a waiting list and accommodate more than one vehicle per household, if space allows. The appointment portal can be found on-line here:

Will the City facilitate the towing of qualifying vehicles to the turn-in event?

The City will not tow vehicles to the turn-in event location but we can put you on a waiting list if we do develop that option in the future.

What do I need to bring with me to the turn-in event on October 29th?

Valid title with owner’s name on it and driver’s license or State-issued ID. RV owners without a valid title will not be able to participate in the event.

How long do you expect each appointment to take?

We anticipate it will take approximately 15 minutes per appointment.

What are the transportation options from PIR once I drop off my RV?

There is Delta Park/Vanport MAX Station across from PIR – it is the Yellow Line train. There are also as private-for-hire transportation options (including but not limited to taxis, Lyft, and Uber).

I can’t figure out how to make an appointment on-line.  Can I make one by telephone?

Yes, please call 503-823-5775 between the hours 8:00 am and 5:00 pm by October 27 and you will be directed to someone who can help you make an appointment by telephone.
