SW Capitol Highway: Multnomah to Texas
SW 33rd Ave & Capitol Hwy SW Miles St & Capitol Hwy
What's happening now?
Summer went by too fast! Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) contracted crews didn’t quite complete the Capitol Highway Paving Project before the rainy season, and so are cleaning up and hibernating for the winter.
Why is work being extended to 2020?
PBOT-contracted crews met unanticipated construction challenges this summer, which required additional time to address. Due to the timeline overrun, crews were then double-booked and could not dedicate time to the project.
When will the work be complete?
PBOT will share additional updates and an anticipated 2020 construction schedule by February 2020 and will coordinate with businesses to minimize construction impacts.

Project Description:
The pavement condition on SW Capitol Highway has deteriorated to a point that sections of it require a complete rebuild and other sections require removing a minimum of 2.5 inches of pavement before repaving.
In addition to repaving the street, all existing curb ramps will be updated to be ADA compliant and new ones will be installed where needed.
On SW 35th Avenue, just north of SW Capitol Highway, PBOT is partnering with ARM Property Management to do the sidewalk improvements.
PBOT is also partnering with the Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) to do sewer pipe spot repairs and other improvements within the project limits. These repairs will replace 820 feet of 80-year-old public sewer pipes along SW Capitol Highway between SW 35th Avenue and SW Texas Street. Taking these actions now will help protect the public and the environment by reducing the possibility of costly breaks, leaks, blockages, and sewage releases to homes, businesses, and streets.

Thanks for your patience while we make SW Capitol Highway a smoother, safer and more accessible street for all.
