In coordination with Union-Pacific Railroad, PBOT will repave the asphalt beside recently replaced rail tracks
(Aug. 26, 2017) – The City of Portland Bureau of Transportation advises the traveling public that street improvements and railroad track replacement will require lane closures on N Columbia Boulevard between N Fiske Avenue and N Chautauqua Boulevard Monday, Aug. 27 through Friday Aug. 31, all hours and all days.
At least one lane on N Columbia Blvd will remain open in each direction, but lane closures will create congestion in the area. The closure is expected to be in place as early as 7 a.m. on Monday.
The lane closures will allow crews to grind and repave the asphalt next to a railroad crossing where Union Pacific recently replaced the rail tracks. PBOT crews will adjust the surface to match the grade where the new rail tracks are set.
PBOT crews have designed the work zone to ensure one travel lane in each direction will be open at all times, and avoid the need for a lengthy detour.
Lane restrictions will be in effect 24 hours a day until the work is finished, expected late Friday afternoon. The lane restriction is necessary to make the work zone safe. When crews have removed the top layer of asphalt, the grade near the rail tracks will be unsafe, until the new asphalt has been installed.
Local businesses will remain open and will have access to their facilities.
The traveling public is advised to expect delays while repairs are being made. We ask the public to travel cautiously, observe all lane closures and directions by reader boards and flaggers, and use alternate routes if possible.
This work is weather-dependent and the schedule may change.
