Proposed Safety Projects: New Signals and Beacons

If the measure passes, what projects would be completed?

Traffic signals and crossing beacons can increase safety and prevent collisions. PBOT would use the additional funding to add new signals and beacons.

If the measure passes, what would be the impact on traffic?

Rapid flashing beacons and traffic signals could reduce pedestrian collisions by about 45%.

Proposed project locations:

If the measure passes, projects would be completed based on the following from PedPDX: Portland’s Citywide Pedestrian Master Plan criteria:

  • Pedestrian collision history
  • Distance from another crossing
  • Ability to increase access to transit stops
  • Alignment with city goals
  • Traffic speed and crossing distance
  • Proximity to schools, community centers, businesses


 If the measure passes, New Signals and Beacons would be provided at the following locations:

E Burnside Street at 24th Avenue

NE 114th Avenue at Halsey Street

SE 105th Avenue at Stark Street

SE 105th Avenue at Washington Street

SE César E Chávez Boulevard at Francis Street

TOTAL Proposed New Signals and Beacons: $5 million
