Other Street Tree Permits

When is a permit required?

Application and instructions

Only an owner of the property abutting the planting strip, or the owner's designee, may apply for a street tree permit. Permits are free and come with an inspection by an Urban Forestry Tree Inspector.

Request a street tree health inspection or permit one of the following ways:

Timeline and process

Street tree permits take approximately 4-6 weeks to process. Incomplete applications will delay the process.

After the application has been received, an Urban Forestry Tree Inspector will visit the site to inspect the tree to determine if it is appropriate to issue the requested permit. If the Tree Inspector needs more information or wishes to discuss the application, they will contact the applicant. The Tree Inspector will then send the applicant either the street tree permit or a letter denying the street tree permit.

Street tree permits are generally valid for 30 days.

Qualifying for a permit

Permits for other tree work, including chemical application, cabling, bracing, are issued when tree conditions warrant the intervention. A certified arborist must approve of and supervise the treatment.
