This page will post important announcements from Urban Forestry and service level updates for permits.
The current wind storm has caused a high volume of tree emergencies across the city. Urban Forestry staff are working quickly to respond and, as a result, non-emergency intake processing may experience delays.
To report trees or limbs down and blocking a public street, please call 503-823-TREE(8733) and select Option 1. Tree emergency response is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
If you are seeking a retroactive permit, you must provide photographic evidence of the danger to structure or public and submit photos with a retroactive permit application within 7 days of the tree work. For information on retroactive emergency removals, please see our website: https://www.portlandoregon.gov/trees/article/497516
Staff from Bureaus of Development Services, Portland Parks & Recreation and Planning & Sustainability have released a final staff report with proposed tree code amendments for City Council to consider in October. The proposed amendments work to increase tree preservation requirements in certain development situations. The staff report is publicly available here.
Although the amendments are a step in the right direction, there is still more work to be done. Visit the Tree Code Amendment website to learn about the proposed amendments, read the staff report and learn about upcoming opportunities to have your voice heard by the Urban Forestry Commission, the Planning & Sustainability Commission and City Council.
Tree Code amendment discussion and public testimony will be heard at the joint public hearing of the Planning and Sustainability Commission and the Urban Forestry Commission on 9/8/20 at 3:30pm. Click here to view the meeting.
