A retroactive tree permit (a permit issued after the removal of a regulated tree due to an emergency) may be used when a regulated tree is in an actively failing condition because the condition or location of a tree presents such a clear and present danger to structures or the public that there is insufficient time to obtain a tree permit.  In these cases the hazardous portion(s) of the tree may be removed without first obtaining a required tree permit and must followed by the submission of a retroactive tree permit within 7 days.

Retroactive tree permits require photographic evidence of the danger to structure or public and these photos must be submitted with the retroactive removal permit application within 7 days of the removal.

The photographs below provide examples of acceptable photos that clearly show the evidence of the danger to structures or the public.
