SW Vista Project

The Portland Water Bureau will install 1,300 feet of new water main on Southwest Vista Avenue between Southwest Clifton Street and approximately 150-feet past Southwest Spring Street this summer. Construction crews will also need to trench approximately 100 feet in both directions at each intersection. See map below.

The work will take approximately four months to complete and will begin in June 19. Work near Ainsworth Elementary School must be completed this summer to minimize impacts to students, parents, and staff.

  • The contractor for the Water Bureau will begin mobilizing on-site on Monday June 19.

  • The contractor will start at the south end of the project, south of Southwest Spring Street.

  • The first phase of the project, from south of Southwest Spring Street to Southwest Laurel Street, will take place between June 19 and mid-August.

  • The second phase, between Southwest Laurel Street to Southwest Clifton Street, will be performed over the course of the next two months, from mid-August to mid-October.

  • Construction hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Lane closures on Southwest Vista Avenue will be between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Water main installation involves cutting the road surface to the size of the pipe trench, excavating the trench, replacing old pipe or installing new pipe, filling the trench, and resurfacing/restoring the road surface that was removed.

What to Expect:

  • “No Parking” barricades will be placed along Southwest Vista Avenue and at side streets under construction. Street parking may be limited.

  • At least one lane will be kept open during work hours (M–F, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and flaggers will control traffic through the construction zone.

  • Your water service may be disrupted for several hours. Customers will be notified of shut downs to the water system 24 hours in advance.  This notification will be done by placing a door hanger on your front door the day before the scheduled shut down.

  • Mail, garbage, and delivery services will be accommodated.

  • You may experience noise, dust, and traffic delays while we conduct this work.
