Over a half mile—4,001 feet—of water main pipe in the Cully Neighborhood will be replaced with more seismically resilient pipe. Five hydrants will be installed and 91 service connections will be renewed.

Water main installation involves cutting the road surface the length and width of the pipe trench, excavating the trench, replacing old pipe or installing new pipe, filling the trench, and restoring the road surface.

Since 2010 there have been more than 10 breaks and leaks along this pipe, brought on by the poor condition of the pipe.
