Arrrrrrrr! Pirates of All Ages Celebrate Buried Treasure You Can Drink
Oct 1, 2015 at 1:59 PM
On September 12, 500 pirates descended upon the Columbia South Shore Well Field to learn about and celebrate groundwater, the buried treasure that has come to the rescue as a supplemental drinking water source during this long, hot summer.
The groundwater served by the Portland Water Bureau from the Columbia South Shore is naturally clean enough to drink without any advanced treatment (just like Bull Run!), and educating the people who live and work in the well field helps to keep it that way.
The Water Bureau and the Columbia Slough Watershed Council host the event each September.
Continuing Education
Join the Portland Water Bureau and the Columbia Slough Watershed Council for Groundwater 101 – a FREE half-day educational workshop that teaches groundwater basics including local geology and hydrology, what role groundwater plays in our drinking water system, and what can be done to protect this important resource.
