Hidden beneath the soils of Portland, Gresham, and Fairview lies a massive network of underground aquifers. These underground water networks can produce nearly 100 million gallons per day of high quality drinking water for Portland-area homes and businesses.
That's just the start of the what's left to learn about the Columbia South Shore Well Field.
Introducing Groundwater 101, presented with our friends at the Columbia Slough Watershed Council.
At Groundwater 101, you'll get a behind-the-scenes look at the Columbia South Shore Well Field, Portland’s secondary drinking water supply.
The workshop features a mix of hands-on and classroom-style learning about local geology and hydrology, the role groundwater plays in our drinking water system, and what we can do to protect this important resource that lies beneath our feet. The day wraps up with an optional field tour of the nearby Groundwater Pumping Station.
Groundwater 101 is offered only once per year and space is limited, so don’t hesitate to sign up if you’re interested.
We’ll see you there!
