City Council to Recognize Transgender Day of Visibility
Portland City Council will formally recognize Transgender Day of Visibility for the first time ever on Thursday, March 28 at 2 pm
Transgender Day of Visibility is an annual, international event to celebrate trans people around the globe, while also raising awareness of the barriers trans people face and how allies can help support them, who are too often overlooked in society.
The Mayor’s Office worked closely with Basic Rights Oregon, Q Center, Sexual Minority Youth Resource Center, Multnomah County, the Joint Office of Homeless Services, the Bureau of Environmental Services, and Portland Fire and Rescue to plan this first-ever recognition.
The event will include a performance by Acchord Choir, which is part of Transpose PDX, a video presentation, a panel of testimony from trans and gender non-binary community members on their experience in our city, and a proclamation to celebrate March 31, 2019 as Transgender Day of Visibility in Portland.
Media inquiries and interviews can be directed to Mikki Gillette from Basic Rights Oregon at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The City of Portland is committed to providing meaningful access. To request translation, interpretation, modifications, accommodations, or other auxiliary aids or services, contact 503-823-1125, Relay: 711.
