Appeal Information Sheet

Appeal item 1

Code Section

507.2.3

Requires

A single domestic cooking appliance installed where domestic cooking operations occur, such as a church... shall meet the requirements of Section 505.1. IMC 505.1 requires a ducted
residential range hood.

Code Modification or Alternate Requested
Proposed Design

The proposed design is to allow for two ranges instead of just one at the church. Both ranges
will be equipped with residential hoods ducted to the outside. We will perform good housekeeping such that no grease will be detectable under the hood or around the cook surfaces.

Reason for alternative

The church will not serve the public. The ranges will only be used for special events at the
church for church parishioners, such as Valentine's Day, potlucks, etc. It will not be used to serve the public, including the homeless.

Appeal Decision

Installation of residential range hood over domestic cooking appliances: Granted as proposed.

The Administrative Appeal Board finds that the information submitted by the appellant demonstrates that the approved modifications or alternate methods are consistent with the intent of the code; do not lessen health, safety, accessibility, life, fire safety or structural requirements; and that special conditions unique to this project make strict application of those code sections impractical.
