Appeal Information Sheet
Appeal item 1
Code Section | Not given |
---|---|
Requires | Install one main backwater valve to legalize basement bathroom. Code requires valve to be placed independent of main line. |
Code Modification or Alternate Requested | |
Proposed Design | Place backwater valve on main cleanout line in existing crawl space--create accessible panel in well--involves digging reinforcing well and installing valve. |
Reason for alternative | Space in bathroom is so tight to get fixtures to meet and connect to valve before meeting with main line. Sink outside of bathroom is closer to cleanout -- this solution would allow it to be on same valve. Only 1 bathroom above on main line. Code method would involve demo of plumbing that has been inspected and otherwise meets code. Would create a significant demo project of other items as well--fixtures, flooring, walls. Demo may not create possibility for beasment only valve. |
Appeal Decision
Placement of backwater valve on main cleanout line in existing crawlspace: Granted as proposed.
The Administrative Appeal Board finds that the information submitted by the appellant demonstrates that the approved modifications or alternate methods are consistent with the intent of the code; do not lessen health, safety, accessibility, life, fire safety or structural requirements; and that special conditions unique to this project make strict application of those code sections impractical.
