2010 OSISC 304.9.1 General Pathway Requirements

Requires

Firefighter access and escape pathways are required per OSSC and shall be shown
on the plans. General Requirements: All photovoltaic installations shall be provided
with pathways not less than 36 inches in width along not less than three sides of the
solar roof plane. The bottom edge of a roof plane with a slope greater than two units
vertical in 12 units horizontal (2:12) shall not be used as a pathway. All pathways
shall be located over a structurally supported area and measured from the edge of
the roof and horizontal ridge to the photovoltaic array or any portion thereof.

Code Modification or Alternate Requested

Solar Roof FF Pathway modification due to nature of structure.

Proposed Design

Proposed 12" FF pathway along high part of shed roof(On the East Side). And 24" Pathway along one roof edge(On the North edge) above lower roof area.

Reason for alternative

We would like to maximize solar potential on this home.

For 12" Pathway appeal request: There is a vaulted ceiling and no attic space under proposed solar roof. In addition, there are 3 large windows on the home underneath this shed roof high point that could possibly be used for emergency ventilation purposed. See Page D.02.1 of plans.

For 24" Pathway appeal request: There is a lower roof below the proposed solar roof with accessibility to the North edge of proposed solar roof for additional FF emergency use. See Page D.02.1 of plans.
