Appeal Information Sheet

Appeal item 1

Code Section

1004.5

Requires

Number of occupants shall be computed at the rate of one occupant per unit of area as prescribed in Table 1004.5.

Code Modification or Alternate Requested

Designate lower actual occupant load to be approved by building official, per listed OSSC exception.

Proposed Design

We are requesting to designate the actual occupant loads per the below, and post signage reflecting these maximums on each level:

Proposed Actual and Posted Maximum Occupants:
Level One: 49 Occupants
Level Two: 29 Occupants

Reason for alternative

Centennial School District intends to use this building for their adult transitions program that provides real-world training and skills to students over the age of 18. The program has two classes (one on each floor), plus a small staff. At no time will the number of occupants exceed 49 on level one and 29 on level two.

Due to the predictably low number of occupants based on enrollment and staff size, and the impracticality of reducing the size of the spaces or adding a secondary means of egress, we seek approval to designate the occupant loads per above. We appreciate your consideration.

Appeal Decision

Reduce occupant load based on use: Hold for more information.
