Requires

507.5.1 requires all portions of Group R-3 structures to be no more than 600 feet from a hydrant along a fire apparatus road.
Modification: Allow units to exceed 600 feet distance from the nearest hydrant, with installation of NFPA 13D sprinklers installed in those units exceeding 600 feet distance.
Proposed Design: Units M, N, O, and P, will have NFPA 13D sprinklers installed. These units are greater than 600 feet from the nearest existing hydrant on E Burnside Street.
Reason for Alternative: We request to provide NFPA 13D sprinklers in units M, N, O, and P, which are greater than 600 feet from the existing hydrant, in lieu of installing a new hydrant.

Code Modification or Alternate Requested

We request allowance for structures within the development to be up to 200 feet from the fire apparatus access road. The included plan shows that 2 units (O and P) do not meet the requirements of 503.1.1.

Proposed Design

The project will replace the existing 8-10 foot wide gravel/dirt public alleyway adjacent to the site with a 20 foot wide paved alley section providing fire access to the property. NFPA 13D sprinklers are proposed for units M, N, O, and P.”

Reason for alternative

The 20 foot wide paved public alley will provide adequate access to all of the proposed units on site. Additionally, units M, N, O, and P will have sprinkler systems installed.
