Appeal Information Sheet
Appeal item 1
| Code Section | OPSC 701.0, 701.1 |
|---|---|
| Requires | Materials for drainage piping shall be in accordance with one of the referenced standards in Table 7-1. CIPP resin is not currently listed in the Table. |
| Code Modification or Alternate Requested | Replace interior 15’ of cast iron with HDPE via burst. |
| Proposed Design | We will use 4” HDPE for an exterior and into interior burst. This 15’ cast iron portion under the built-up crawl is completely failed and has holes and dirt getting into the pipe. |
| Reason for alternative | The interior portion is just 15’ long and borderline inaccessible under a built up crawlspace. Re-routing of the main sewer line is impossible without the use of a pump. Excavation is not recommended due to extremely limited access in crawl. |
Appeal Decision
Allow HDPE to be used for the building drain in lieu of ABS: Granted provided a sign is located at the clean out indicating HDPE piping is downstream.
"The Administrative Appeal Board finds that the information submitted by the appellant demonstrates that the approved modifications or alternate methods are consistent with the intent of the code; do not lessen health, safety, accessibility, life, fire safety or structural requirements; and that special conditions unique to this project make strict application of those code sections impractical.
