Code Modification or Alternate Requested

The purpose for this appeal is to provide onsite after hours security via a camera surveillance system, in conjunction with security response protocols.

Proposed Design

Off hours (non-working hours) security will be provided by a camera surveillance system in conjunction with security response protocol. Security cameras will be placed at strategic locations around the site perimeter to ensure coverage at site openings. The system will include 24-hour live
monitoring. The system will be able to detect a breach of the premise as well as fire watch. Security will be in place until the fire protection system is fully charged and operational.

The site security and fire watch protocol will be as follows:
The construction site is secured with lockable temporary fencing at the perimeter. Temporary doors and locks will be installed at all building entry points. Security cameras will monitor the entire perimeter of the ground floor for fire and intruders.
o Cameras will be monitored during the “after-hours.”
o Cameras will have back-up power.
o When there is intrusion at the site, the system has the ability to respond with lights and/or to communicate with the intruder.
o If there is an incident the Security Camera company will notify the Designated Contact.

The general contractor will secure the services of a site security response firm.
o They will perform no less than (3) patrols per night, 7 days per week.
o They will perform no less than (3) patrols per day on Saturdays and Sundays.
o If there is an incident the site security patrol will notify the authorities and Designated Contact.

Reason for alternative

The proposed video surveillance will provide continuous and more reliable monitoring of the jobsite, allowing for constant, live monitoring during after hours and will allow for the entire perimeter of the jobsite to be observed at once, further reducing the potential for fires during construction.
