Requires

Fire access roads shall extend to within 150 feet of all portions of the exterior
walls of the first story of the building as measure by an approved route around
the exterior of the building. When the building is equipped throughout with an
approved automatic sprinkler system, this distance can be extended to 250 feet.

Code Modification or Alternate Requested

Allow the fire access distance to be extended to 265' when the building is treated with a fire retardant spray.

Proposed Design

The wood structure and cladding of the building will be treated with a fire retardant. DRI-ONE EP Flame Retardant (Protection Class A) will be used. The structure will be built as close to the existing road as the existing tree root protection zones allow (265' to the furthest corner of the structure).

Reason for alternative

The building cannot be moved any closer than 265' to the nearest road (N Iris Way) without impeding on the root protection zones of the existing site trees on Portland Parks land, nor can the trees be removed. A fire access road cannot be constructed as its cost would be far higher than the entire budget of this project (nor does Portland Parks want us to build one).
