Appeal Information Sheet
Appeal item 1
| Code Section | OSSC 1017.2 Exit Access Travel Distance |
|---|---|
| Requires | OSSC 1006.2.1 Egress Based on Occupant Load & Common Path of Egress Travel Distance Two exits or exit access doorways from any space shall be provided where the design occupant load or the common path of egress travel distance exceeds the values listed in Table 1006.2.1. Table 1006.2.1 allows maximum common path of egress travel distance of 100’ for B occupancies with sprinkler system. |
| Code Modification or Alternate Requested | We are requesting that the common path of egress travel distance at a portion of the Air Ticketing Office at the Enplaning level be allowed to exceed the maximum common path of egress travel distances allowed by code as a temporary condition to allow for the removal of a temporary construction door at the east end of United Airline’s ATO. Common path travel distance in excess of code allowed maximum will occur for approximately 6 weeks before the permanent secondary egress exit path to the north becomes available in Spring of 2026. |
| Proposed Design | North Enplaning: Please see Exhibit EXE.4 for annotated plan. |
| Reason for alternative | The alternate is required when the temporary construction door is removed to allow for final completion of construction of the wall. Occupants egressing in an emergency event will be directed to the west to where they will have access to several exits to the east and west, which will allow them to egress to a safe location. This area is protected via a sprinkler system and detection devices and is monitored by the Port’s 24-hour communication center. The conditions proposed in this appeal will be temporary and only apply during removal of a temporary construction door east of United’s ATO. This condition will exist until a secondary egress opens in Spring 2026. We are requesting the proposed conditions be approved as part of the Occupancy Safety Plan measures that will be implemented during the construction of the Terminal improvements. |
