This morning police and fire responded to reports of an explosion near the intersection of  SW 5th Avenue and SW Harvey Milk Street. Crews arrived to find damage to several of the food carts and surrounding buildings. Both Portland Police Bureau’s Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) and Portland Fire Arson Investigators continue working to determine the cause of the food cart explosion. Earlier this morning PPB released information about the incident via FlashAlert.

At this time, there is no indication that this incident was a device and it is being investigated as a fuel gas explosion consistent with something like propane. There is no ongoing danger to the community and anyone with potential information is encouraged to call PF&R Arson Investigator Jason Andersen at 503-823-FIRE.
